The Russian market of perfumery and cosmetics industry is among the first in the world. The turnover for imported products, which enjoy prestige, is around U.S. $ 2.295 billion and the sophisticated Russian consumer differs from European consumers for a higher marginal propensity for consumption. It is thus a market with enormous potential and offers many opportunities. According to data provided by the Russian Perfumery and Cosmetics Association in 2010, more than half of the products consumed in the sector in Russia come from foreign companies, although this percentage varies depending on the type of product (for example, only 5% of deodorants sold in Russia are produced domestically, while more than 50% of skin care products are Russian brands). Although the bulk of domestic consumption is concentrated in the cities of Moscow and St. Petersburg, the rest of the country is experiencing faster growth compared to the two main cities. The major exporters to the Russian market are France (with a 26.3% share), Germany (14%), Poland (10.2%), Italy (6.9%), United States (6.8%), United Kingdom (6.4%) and China (3.2%). Local production is destined mainly to the major consumer market, while products with a higher target are provided by large international companies.
